2026/2027 Rep Tryouts – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Thank you for your interest in the Woodbridge Basketball Association (WBA) Rep Program! We know families often have questions during tryouts, so we've put together this FAQ to help you better understand what to expect throughout the season.

What is the WBA Rep Program?

Our Rep Program is designed for players who are looking for a higher level of basketball development and competition. Players will train with experienced coaches, compete against teams across Ontario, and continue developing their skills throughout the season.

When does the Rep season run?

The 2026/2027 Rep season will run approximately from:

Mid-September 2026 through Mid-June 2027

Practices will begin during the second week of September.

How often do teams practice?

Teams will typically practice:

2–3 times per week
Practices are generally held on weekday evenings
Practice times are typically between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., depending on gym availability and the team's age group.

Where are practices held?

Practices are held at various school gymnasiums throughout the Woodbridge and Vaughan area.

Gym locations and schedules vary by team each season based on facility availability.

How much does the Rep season cost?

The expected cost for the 2026/2027 Rep season is approximately $2,200 (+/-).

As a registered non-profit organization, WBA works hard to keep our programs as affordable as possible.

This season has presented significant challenges due to substantial and unexpected increases in school gym permit fees. Despite these increases, our goal remains to provide a high-quality basketball experience while keeping costs as reasonable as possible for our families.

Final fees will be confirmed once all operating costs have been finalized.

What is included in the Rep fees?

Rep fees include:

Approximately 9 months of team practices
Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) player registration
League registration fees
Ontario Cup Championship registration
Home & Away reversible game uniforms
Practice jersey
Long-sleeve warm-up shirt

Are tournaments included?

Each team will participate in league play and tournaments throughout the season.

League and tournament schedules are determined by each coaching staff at the beginning of the season based on the team's age, development goals, and competitive level.

Examples may include:

Ontario Basketball League (OBL)
Coalition League
MYBL
HLBL
Additional tournaments throughout Ontario

Please note that league and tournament participation may vary from team to team.

Will there be travel?

Yes.

Most league games and tournaments will take place throughout the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions.

Teams may occasionally travel farther depending on tournament selection and league schedules.

Teams that qualify for the Ontario Cup Championships at the end of the season may be required to travel outside their local area. For more information regarding the Ontario Cup, please visit the Ontario Basketball website.

What commitment is expected?

Rep basketball requires a significant commitment from both players and families.

Players are expected to:

Attend practices regularly
Attend games and tournaments
Arrive on time and prepared
Demonstrate good sportsmanship
Work hard and maintain a positive attitude
Communicate with coaches if they will be absent

Regular attendance is important for both individual development and team success.

How are players selected?

Players are evaluated by the coaching staff during tryouts based on several factors, including:

Basketball fundamentals
Skill level
Athletic ability
Basketball IQ
Work ethic
Coachability
Attitude
Team play and communication
Effort and competitiveness

Selection decisions are made by each team's coaching staff.

When will players find out if they made the team?

Our goal is to notify families within two days following the second tryout.

In some cases, coaches may make decisions sooner. If a coach is confident after the first tryout, they may extend an offer—or notify a player they have not been selected—before the second tryout.

We understand that many players attend tryouts with multiple organizations, so we strive to communicate decisions as quickly as possible to help families make informed choices.

If my child is offered a spot, how long do we have to decide?

Players who receive an offer will be asked to confirm their acceptance within a specified timeframe provided by the coaching staff.

Prompt responses allow coaches to complete their roster and offer opportunities to other players if necessary.

What if my child isn't selected?

Rep team spots are limited, and unfortunately not every player can be selected.

Players who are not selected are encouraged to continue developing through our House League, clinics, camps, and future WBA programming. We encourage all athletes to continue working hard and trying out again in future seasons.

Rep Tryout Day Information

To help ensure a smooth check-in process, please review the following information before arriving at tryouts.

Arrival & Check-In

Please arrive 10–20 minutes before your scheduled tryout time to allow enough time for registration.
Upon arrival, all players must check in at the Registration Table.
Once registered:
- Your attendance will be confirmed.
- A player number will be written on your hand for coach evaluations.
- A photo will be taken for identification purposes during the evaluation process.

What to Bring

Please come prepared with the following:

🏀 A basketball (if you have one)
👕 A light-coloured shirt
👕 A dark-coloured shirt
👟 Comfortable athletic clothing and basketball shoes
💧 A reusable water bottle (water fountains/refill stations will be available)

During Tryouts

Players should be ready to participate as soon as the session begins.
Coaches will evaluate players throughout the tryout using drills, skill work, and game play.
We encourage all players to:
- Work hard
- Listen to coaches
- Be positive teammates
- Play with confidence
- Have fun and give their best effort

Parents & Spectators

Parents and spectators are welcome to watch from the designated viewing areas.
To allow coaches to properly evaluate players, we kindly ask that parents do not enter the court or speak with coaches during the tryout.
Coaches and WBA staff will be happy to answer questions before or after the session whenever possible.
